The LOT A5 Iron Ore Exploration work carried out by the National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency within the National Integrated Mineral Exploration Project (NIMEP) has reached advanced stage. In a progress report submitted recently, it was revealed that it has carried out extensive exploration work in 28 out of 35 iron ore targets identified for the project.
Exploration work for Iron Ore within the NIMEP Project supervised by the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) is being carried out in five (5) assigned blocks in several states including Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, Kogi, Enugu, Taraba, Adamawa and Bauchi states. So far, 62 core holes have been drilled in areas such as Tajimi, Kakun, Libale-Nasko and Kambala.
The agency has completed three out of four (4) phases proposed for the project, with 11 prospects identified, mapped out and studied for viable interpretation. Cores have also been collected for further analyses on the actual iron ore resource base of the targets.
Other outstanding works include Interpretation of field and laboratory results/data, Presentation of findings to Project Team/Resource Persons, Report writing, and Peer Review of Reports.
The National Integrated Mineral Exploration Project (NIMEP) is part of Federal Government’s diversification effort through the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development to make the solid mineral sector more attractive to investors by providing bankable data and lead the charge towards further exploration and development of the nation’s solid mineral resources.
